Reading:

There are three reading groups in our classroom and we work on individual skills.  Your child is working with children that are also at their skill level.  This month in your child will be working on learning the following skills:

J    d and s

They will also continue to learn new sight words and read books that are on their reading level.  Please continue to read with and to your child on a daily basis.

 

Math:

Our math program is based on a spiraling philosophy.  Concepts are introduced and repeated throughout the year.  They are not taught for immediate mastery, but rather to bring them from experience to mastery over time.  Here are the skill activities that they will be working on in December.

J     Counting by 10s

J     Teen Frame Game- working on teen numbers to 20

J     Number line Math- Addition & Subtraction with number lines

J     Top-it Card Games- Number recognition and comparisons

J     Pattern Blocks

J     The Addition Symbol

J     Follow My Pattern

J     Interrupted Counts-  practicing counting on

J     Meet the Calculator

J     Roll and Record with 2 Dice

J     Body and Rope Shapes- deepen the understanding of shapes

J     Shape Comparisons

J     The Subtraction Symbol

J     Slate Activities- number writing practice 0-20

Reminders:

We will be having a small holiday celebration in December.  I will be sending home notes to those people who signed up for snack donations.  Please only send something in if you have been contacted as we are looking to eliminate having too much food.
