Math Seven
Grade seven math is offered at three levels - Advanced
Pre-Algebra, Pre-Algebra I, and Math 7. Because homework is such a key element
of success in mathematics, students should expect homework on a regular basis
in all classes. Additionally, all students are required to maintain
a math notebook that will provide a written record of what students learn
during the school year and will serve as a reference in grade 8. Students
should expect writing assignments that will demonstrate the ability to
communicate what they have learned. These writing assignments, as well
as other special activities, give students the opportunity to apply math
in a variety of ways.
Math Eight
Grade eight math is offered at three levels as well -
Algebra I, Pre-Algebra II, and Math 8. As they did in Grade 7, eighth
graders are expected to maintain a math notebook and to keep up with regular
homework assignments. Writing assignments in grade 8 demonstrate the
students' ability to communicate the approach used to solve problems.
Special activities are designed to prepare students for the MCAS test
given to 8th graders each spring. All classes include the use of
calculators in selected lessons to ensure that students are prepared to use
calculators on a regular basis in high school. |
