At Tantasqua, students have the option of studying French or Spanish.
Fifteen minutes of daily homework or review is required for mastering
language skills. Students who are planning on a college career should
seriously consider beginning their language study at grade seven, and continuing
this study throughout their high school years. Students electing French
or Spanish should remain with the same language while in junior high school.
Both French and Spanish are introduced through the skills of listening, speaking,
reading and writing. Students will become proficient in recognizing
and responding to simple spoken French or Spanish with the imitation of native
intonation emphasized. The culture and way of life of the people of
France, Spain, and other Spanish-speaking countries will be studied to widen
the students' global perspective.
Students who do not start the study of a foreign language in grade 7 may
do so in grade 9 at the senior high school. French I and II and Spanish
I and II are offered.
