The teaching of writing is emphasized at both grade levels in junior high school. To strengthen the development of writing skills, units in grammar, usage, spelling, and vocabulary are taught throughout the year.
Although course content will vary in grades seven and eight, literature will cover the novel, the short story, drama, poetry, and the essay. Both fiction and non-fiction works are read. Homework, which includes outside reading and report-writing, is required in both seventh and eighth grades.
