Concert Band is open to both 7th and 8th grade students who have had some previous instrumental training.  The goal for this group is to strive towards an intermediate level of performance.  Students must have completed at least one full year of instrument lessons and has had some experience in a performing ensemble.   
Students should be able to:

• Recognize and perform in 4/4, 3/4 and 2/4 time signatures
• Play at least 3 scales up and down one octave
• Recognize key signatures, accidentals and the chromatic scale
• Recognize and play different dynamic levels
• Produce a solid and well-projected tone
• Understand basic music notation including notes, rhythm, clef sign, accidentals, repeats signs, holds, D.C., D.S. etc.
• Sight read with little difficulty music from a first level method book

Concert Band will meet every other day.  All members maintaining a passing grade are committed to at least two public performances per year which are scheduled during non-school hours.  Students with a C average or below may be exempt from public performances.  The educational objective of this band is to learn the fundamental of performing together as a coherent, expressive musical ensemble.  Students completing Concert Band who has shown improvement on their instrument, has the desire to perform, displays a positive attitude and earns a grade of C or better will be eligible to continue band in the 8th grade.
