Mission Statement

School Nursing is the specialized practice of professional  nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students.

Schools need to promote the health of every child in order to raise educational achievement.
"Health is not just the absence of disease...it is the complete physical, mental, and social well-being." (Helvie, 1998)  For a child to effectively learn, he or she must be in good health.  Only when students are healthy will schools be able to fully meet their goals regarding a child's academic and personal fulfillment!
Health and learning go hand-in-hand
  • An unhealthy child has difficulty learning
  • An undernourished child cannot concentrate well
  • Medical problems interfere with a child's ability to learn

Student's three main problems as indicated by teachers.

School nursing services directly impact three of the National Educational Goals.

There is a clear connection between school nursing interventions and student success.
