Community Wellness Information Sessions

In the interest of promoting health and wellness among school-age children and adolescents, Mrs. Michelle Breuer, Life Skills/Health Teacher, organized three evening information sessions for parents/guardians of Tantasqua/Union 61 students, as well as members of area towns in recent months.

    Drug Abuse Recognition for Communities
    Burlington, MA

Marilyn G. Belmonte is a substance abuse prevention coordinator and drug abuse recognition specialist.   She received the national ”All-Star” award from the Consumer Healthcare Products Association, makers of over-the-counter medications for raising awareness about cough medicine abuse in 2008.  Her school screening assessment of students under the influence of drugs was published by the MA Department of Public Health in its “Comprehensive School Health Manual” in 2007.   She was awarded a “Citizenship in Action” certificate of recognition from Middlesex District Attorney’s Partnerships for Youth in 2006.

The evening with begin with a brief presentation by Tina Render, MD on “normal” adolescent development and the challenges parents/guardians can expect.  This will be followed by an opportunity for families to dialog with Dr. Render and the panel of experts on a variety of issues.  Adolescent anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, stress, or suicide are some of the topics that the panel is prepared to address.

Adolescent Sexual Assault and Dating Violence

Carole Jenny, MD will present on adolescent sexual assault.  She will discuss risk factors, the role of older age partners, long term effects and what to do if sexual assault happens to someone you know.  Lory Santoro and Gail Bobin will explain the connections between adolescent sexual assault and intimate partner violence. 

A minimum number of registrations must be received for this presentation to occur.
