The Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA) has established a website to guide Massachusetts families through the entire college financial aid process while avoiding the risk of internet scams and unnecessary fees. Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to visit www.mefacounselor.org to review the financial aid opportunities offered by MEFA.
It goes without saying that a major obstacle to one pursuing a degree is the skyrocketing cost of post-secondary education, be it at a college or university. Planning ahead can prove advantageous, however. The MEFA's 529 Plan, known as the U.Fund, is one such strategic planning tool. By saving in a 529 Plan, parents/guardians have a simple, tax-advantaged way to help prepare financially for the future cost of a higher education. Unfortunately many families are unaware of this option until it is too late. Parent/guardians are therefore encouraged to call MEFA at (617) 261-9760 or visit their website at http://mefa.org/planningEssentials/savingEarly.aspx for information on the U Fund. |
