Advisor(s)

Advisors are faculty members who supervise the council's activities, aiding in the planning and organizing of its activities.  Nonetheless, the council is administered as much as possible by the students themselves, with the meetings led by the executive board.

 

Student Council Officers

Student Council officers must have previously been a member of the senior high school student council for at least one full year in either an elected or honorary fashion.  Student council officers form the backbone of the council.  It is their leadership, guidance, enthusiasm, and level of commitment under which actions will be taken.  This commitment is not to be undertaken lightly.  Student council officers are responsible for meeting with the advisor and the rest of the executive board prior to each full board meeting, attending and leading each of them, as well each event the council sponsors, and overseeing various events and committees on the council.  There are six individual and distinct positions:

 

President

The president leads the council, and acts as a liaison between the council and its advisor.

 

Vice President

The vice president specializes in public relations, and serves as a stand-in for the president when needed.

 

Secretary

The secretary formulates an agenda and takes minutes for all meetings.

 

Treasurer

The treasurer keeps a financial record for the council for the year in which they serve.

 

Historian

The historian keeps a book which organizes and records all council activities.

 

Webmaster

The webmaster maintains, and continuously updates the student council website.

 

Class Officer:  President

The class President presides over all business meetings of the class, has the power to call meetings of the class with the approval of the advisor and principal, vote on any mater in which the class is divided, appoint chairpersons of all committees and serve as ex-officio chairperson of all committees, exercise the power to veto all class actions where it is necessary, serve as chairperson of his/her class's executive committee, serve as the ombudsman to the Student Council, administration, and faculty for their respective class and the benefit of the school body, serve as voting member of the student council, with all of the expectations and responsibilities of the student council.

 

Class Officer:  Academic Vice President

The class Academic Vice President assists in performing the duties of any executive member absent, assists the President in all class matters, and serves as a voting member of the student council with all of the expectations and responsibilities of the student council.

 

Class Officer:  Technical Vice President

The class Technical Vice President assists in performing the duties of any executive member absent, assists the President in all class matters, acts as a liaison between the class members, faculty, and the administration of the academic and technical divisions of the school, and serves as a voting member of the student council, with all of the expectations and responsibilities of the student council.

 

Class Officer:  Secretary

The class Secretary prepares and distributes agendas to the class officers and/or class, keeps accurate minutes of each meeting of the officers and/or class, furnishes information to the President and the advisor concerning actions that should be taken by the class or by the committee according to the requests of class members as recorded in minutes, give the class a report on activities and treasurer's balance for both the class and the student council, takes care of tall correspondence for the class, and maintains an updated class list.

 

Class Officer:  Treasurer

The class Treasurer maintains all records of receipts deposits and expenditures of the class, present and up-to-date financial report at every business meeting of the class, serves as an ex-officio chairperson of all class fundraising activities, serves as a voting member of the student council with all of the expectations and responsibilities of the student council.

 

Regional School Committee Representatives

There are five positions available as a Regional School Committee Representative.  Each elected student is responsible for meeting monthly with the Tantasqua Regional School Committee and Administration.  These meetings are typically held at 7:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month.  The Student Representatives to the School Committee report to the school committee the various activities that take place here at the school and serve as a sounding board for ideas that affect the student body.  They are also responsible for attending and participating in all student council meetings and events.

 

Student Advisory Council Representatives

There are two positions available on the Student Advisory Council.  Each elected student is responsible for meeting monthly with representatives from other schools across the Commonwealth.  These meetings are typically held during the school day; and therefore, the representative will be absent once monthly in order to attend such meetings.  These absences will be excused.  If absent for more than two meetings, the member will be removed from their elected position.  As a SAC representatives, these members represent Tantasqua Regional High School students with regard to decisions made on the legislative state level.

 

School Improvement Council

There are two positions available as the student representative to the School Improvement Council.  Each elected student is responsible for meeting monthly with the Tantasqua Regional School Improvement Council, which consists of students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members.  These meetings are typically held once a month in the evening, although some mornings are required.  As a Student Representative to the School Improvement Council, members are responsible for making recommendations and providing feedback to changes being made at the school.  They are also expected to attend and participate in all student council meetings and events.

 

Student Council Representatives

There are six positions open per class for representatives with voting privileges.  Students holding these positions, like any of the others, need to be prepared to make a year-long commitment to the council.  They are held accountable for attendance at all weekly scheduled full board meetings, which are usually held during lunch or in the early evening.  Further, elected members are also required to attend and participate in all student council functions, chairing at least one event committee over the course of the school-year, and participating in the planning committees of various others.  They are expected to decorate for various events, and work at fundraisers--including fall and winter shack.  Additionally, each is expected to adhere to a code of honor with regard to behavior, conduct, and ethics.  Failure to meet these criteria results in suspension and/or removal from the council.

 

Honorary Members

If not elected, it is still possible to participate on the council as an honorary member with no voting privileges.
