Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Burgess Elementary School Website. If you do not find the information you are seeking on this site, please do not hesitate to contact me at school anytime. My telephone number and email address are located at the top of this page.

Throughout the school year the staff at Burgess will do everything possible to provide your child with a safe and nurturing environment, assisting students in achieving at the highest level possible. During the 2008-2009 school year, Burgess Elementary School and the other elementary schools in Union 61 School District will continue its’ implementation of the Everyday Mathematics Program. In addition to kindergarten, grades one and two, grades three and four will also utilize Everyday Math. Staff will be provided professional development in order to assist with the implementation of this new math curriculum. An Everyday Math Parent’s Night is planned for September 22nd. Everyday Mathematics will be implemented in grades five and six during the 2009-2010 school year.

Burgess will see extensive technology enhancements this year, as we receive seventy-five new computers for teachers, a second mobile laptop cart, a SMARTBoard, additional computers in the Media Center and upgrades in our server capacity. Much of this was due to a large donation from the Glass Foundation.

The Burgess Website will continue to provide a great deal of information for parents. I encourage all parents to investigate this site and review our new Curriculum Maps found under the heading of General Information. We will continue to add to the maps posted on this link. You will also find an updated staff list for the coming year.

On behalf of the staff at Burgess Elementary School, I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all members of the Sturbridge community for your continued support in providing the children of Sturbridge the high caliber education they deserve. We are here for our students and their families, and wish to make these the most successful and engaging years of our student’s lives.
